Dayanand Institution's Main Building         

D.A.V. College Trust and Management Society, New Delhi and Institutions At Solapur

 The D.A.V. College Trust and Management Society was established on 31st January 1886. It is now the oldest & biggest non-governmental educational organisation in India. It covers broadly the entire spectrum of educational activity in the country. The society developed a chain of institutions from Jammu and Kashmir in the North to Tamilnadu in the South, from Rajasthan in the West to Manipur in the East, with a view to meet the demand for enlightening and progressive education based on the requirements of contemporary times with emphasis on values of life. It includes over 750 public and aided schools, colleges in the faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, Law, Technical, Ayurvedic, Medicine, Pharmacy & Management. It has completed one hundred and fourteen years of its academic service. Apart from providing the traditional value education, it has also contributed to the society through the establishment of Maternity Hospital at Ambala, a Rural Development Training Ashram in Manipur, the Lalchand Library and a Research Department in Hoshiyarpur.

The Management established Dayanand College of Arts and Science in Solapur in 1940 to celebrate the victory of Satyagraha launched by Arya Samaj against the atrocities committed by then the ruler of Hyderabad. Since then the Managing Committee has gone on continuously expanding its educational activities for the welfare of the people of Solapur and the surrounding areas. On 17th June 1940 Dayanand College of Arts and Science was established under the stewardship of Prin. G.L. Datta. The city of Solapur and the surrounding areas needed such a facility. Dayanand Institutions have been doing excellent work in serving the cause of education not only for Solapur District but also for the surrounding areas.

Dayanand Institutions are spread over an area of 63 acres of land with impressive and magnificent buildings for classrooms, spacious and well-equipped laboratories and libraries as also vast playgrounds with a pavilion to seat more than 3000 students.

             The college was established in the year 1940 after the marathon Satyagraha by Arya Samaj in 1939 against the social and political oppression by the then rulers of Hyderabad. The College is well-established with a Library, Class rooms, Gardens, Hostels (Hostel for Men with a facility for 350 boarders and a Hostel for Women with a facility for 60 boarders), an Open-Air-Theatre, a Playground, a Free Dispensary, a Post-Office and a Bank etc., spread over 63 acres of “Dayanand Nagar”.                

DAV Network of Educational Institutions

            Today DAV organization runs more than 750 institutions., imparting quality education to more than six lakhs students. These include: -

i)              57 arts, science and professional colleges.

ii)             6 colleges of education.

iii)            470 public schools.

iv)            Govt. – aided schools.

v)             Chain of technical institutions including institution of Management and 

               Vocational studies.

vi)            An Ayurvedic college and DAV Pharmacy.

vii)           Two Dental colleges and a modern Maternity and General Hospital.

viii)          Law college (Solapur)

ix)           DAV Institute of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Jalandhar.

x)           Taken Ram Thakur Devi DAV Institute of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation,

              YamunaNagar.

xi)          Dayanand Brahm Mahavidyalaya imparts the teachings from Vedas and

              Upanishads and prepares intakes for priesthood.

xii)         DAV institutes Moral Education, Mandir Marg, New Delhi at Tankara (Gujrat)

               imparts training to Dharma – Shikshaks.

 Research Institutions :

i)             Vishveshvaranand Vedic Research Institute, Hoshiyarpur, the largest Sanskrit and

               Vedic Research Institute in the world.

ii)            Lal Chand Library and Research Department, Hoshiyarpur shifted to DAV college,

               Chandigarh.

iii)           Research centre on Vedic Studies and Indology, Hans Raj  college campus, Delhi.

Highlights

More than a dozen of Army officers of different ranks having DAV background sacrificed their lives for the country during the Kargil war. DAV organizations donated Rs. One crore and eleven lacs to the Prime Minister’s Defense Fund at the time of Kargil War. Solapur unit of the DAV Institutions, contributed Rs. Two lacs, fifty-six thousand five hundred during the Kargil war.

DAV organization has extended a helping hand to the earthquake-stricken people of Gujrat. It has raised a fund of Rs. One crore for the earthquake victims and adopted twenty-five villages in earthquake – affected areas. The Solapur unit of the DAV Institutions contributed Rs. Three lacs to the Gujarat Relief Fund.

DAV and Arya Pradeshik Pratinidhi Sabha have fulfilled the promise of feeding for a year 300 cyclone-devastated families of super cyclone affected areas of Orissa. It is also running two Vedic Bal Ashrams for orphans (one for boys and other for girls) who have lost their parents in this tragedy. DAV unit Solapur contributed Rs. Eighty-six thousand six hundred eighty towards Orissa Cyclone Fund.

 Solapur Arya Bal Sadan was also run by DAV Managing Committee for orphans who lost their parents in Killari earthquake (Maharashtra). DAV institute, Solapur have donated Rs. Three lacs eleven thousand eight hundred sixty-two towards Chief Minister’s Fund for earthquake in Maharashtra.

DAV public school at Dabwali had a fire disaster when a school children pendal caught fire in January 1996. DAV Solapur unit contributed Rs. One lacs for the welfare of affected children.

                      theoretical and applied.
